In order to understand it better, I always compare it to the premiere of a movie on the big screen.
Imagine for a moment that a super production of that saga you like so much is going to be released. You know that it will be in theaters for you to see whenever you want, but you feel the need to attending the premiere and even talk to the director or actors.
The same thing happens with YouTube, when you upload a video to your channel, you have the option to publish it as a premiere.
This means that, on the day and time of your choice, the video will be screened for the first timeThe video will be available exclusively to everyone in the room (your channel) at the same time. Once it is finished, it will be released for others to watch at any time they want.
Advantages of a YouTube premiere
The main advantage of a YouTube premiere for viewers, besides the fact that they can watch it before others, is that they can talk directly with other viewers and with the creator, through the chat enabled during the premiere.
The advantage for you, as a creator, is that you can you generate an expectation and interest in advance and you can interact with your audience without the need for live streaming.
How to schedule a premiere on YouTube
Programming a premiere is really simple, since the procedure is exactly the same as when you upload a new video to your channel, although with some details that you must modify in the last tab, the "visibility" tab.
Remember to click on the "Create" icon at the top right, next to your channel avatar, and then click on "Upload video".
Once the video file you have chosen has finished uploading, you will get a window like this one, where you have to follow these steps:
- Click on the Visibility tab
- Instead of "Save and Publish", select "Schedule" and choose the day and time you want to release your video on YouTube.
- Check the box where it says "Set as premiere".
- Configure the premiere options.
- Click on the "Schedule" button
Set up a premiere on YouTube
When scheduling your premiere, you have some options that you can configure by clicking on the icon marked with the number 4.
From this screen, you will be able to decide the duration of the countdown timer (displayed before starting your premiere) as well as the style of that video with the timer.
On the other hand, you can decide if you want your viewers to be redirected to another premiere video or a live stream, either from you or another YouTube channel, once your premiere video ends.
Logically, the content you want to redirect to must be scheduled in advance and must have a start time later than the time your premiere will end.
In addition, you can also add a trailer to your premiere. This is a hook video, lasting between 15 seconds and 3 minutes, that you create to tell your viewers what the video you are about to release is about and asking them to activate the notification for YouTube to alert them.
Remember that the video you want to use as a trailer must be previously uploaded to your channel (preferably in hidden state), otherwise you will not be able to select it from this screen.
In any case, you can always re-edit the release (before the date you have scheduled) to add the trailer.
Once you have all the options configured, you can click on the "Save" button and continue with the process of the previous point.
